How to use:

  1. Ensure that there are no wax particles still present in each of the three parts. Remove these and any other foreign particles and rinse all parts using COLD water and then sterilize with HOT water.
  2.  Assemble the three components together (Base unit, filter and extractor unit) and place on solid floor on top of a mat or newspaper to help eliminate movement. Ensure the honey gate valve is closed and that the side clips linking the base unit to the extractor unit are fastened.
  3.  Load UNCAPPED frames into the basket in the extractor, side bar down and with the Top Bar nearest the drum wall. Balancing of the frames correctly in the extractor will aid in smoother operation of the spinning process (spinning with just three frames will cause a lot of movement of the extractor, so spin slowly).
  4.  Fit the Perspex covers and commence extracting by slowly cranking the handle. Increase the speed gently keeping so as to prevent excessive extractor body movement. Turn the handle in the reverse direction to apply the brake. Rotating the frames too quickly especially when full of honey, can damage the comb and cause frames to break due to centrifugal force.
  5.  Crank the extractor until about half of the honey has spun out from the first side of the frames. Flip the frames over (keeping Top Bars nearest the drum wall) and extract the second side fully. Lastly, flip frames again and finish extracting the first side. Remove the extracted frames and repeat the process.
  6.  The extracted honey will pass through the extractor unit and be filtered as it enters the base unit. After all honey has drained into the base unit. the extractor unit may be unclipped and cleaned with cold water and sterilized.
  7.  For ease of emptying of the base unit, place it on a table and with food grade buckets/jars etc. commence filling by opening the gate valve, further filtering may be done at this point if required. Wash with cold water and sterilize with special attention to the honey gate and the filter.
